A weekend shack for a lush site on a small Moreton Bay island. An economical and low-maintenance system of prefabricated steel portal frames is proposed as a means of minimising on-site labour and simplifying construction techniques in this remote, unbridged location. This initial pragmatic decision led onto an exploration of 'post and beam' space in the tradition of Japanese construction, with simple, robust volumes articulated and divided by movable screens and non-loadbearing partitions.
