The most badly-ageing feature of this monolithic 1970s apartment block by the river was the poor design of its public spaces. Instead of trying to "modernise" the appearance of the predominantly cream-brick tower itself, our approach was to further apply this dignified but unfashionable brick material to make all manner of public spaces, paths and outdoor structures, with the aim of bringing a verdant sense of conviviality and joy into the everyday lives of residents, visitors and passers-by.
